Vinyl mini blinds: getting the width right, and what the rest of the words mean
A 1 In. vinyl mini blind is the plain, inexpensive window covering most houses use — horizontal slats on a ladder cord that tilt for privacy and lift out of the way. Ours are sold by width in one-inch steps, at a fixed 64 In. drop, so the only measurement you normally have to get right is how wide the window is. Light filtering means the vinyl is opaque enough for privacy with the slats closed but still lets a soft light through; it is not a blackout blind. Cordless means there is no hanging lift cord to manage or to keep away from children — you raise and lower the bottom rail by hand. The slats can be shortened by removing rungs from the ladder if the 64 In. drop is longer than the window.

Measuring, and getting the size right first time
- Inside mount: measure the opening width at the top, the middle and the bottom, and order to the NARROWEST of the three.
- Outside mount: measure the width you want covered and add roughly 1.5 in. at each side to stop light leaking past.
- Order the exact width — an inside-mount blind is made a fraction under the stated size so it clears the frame.
- The 64 In. drop is longer than most windows on purpose; the slats can be shortened at home by pulling rungs out of the ladder cord.
- Cordless has no lift cord, which is what to choose where children or pets can reach the window.
- Measure every window separately. Openings in the same wall are very often a quarter inch apart.
