Which Battery Does My Key Fob Take?
Search your vehicle below. Nearly every remote and smart key uses a 3-volt lithium coin cell, but which one depends on the model year and on whether you have a push-button smart key or a standard remote — so check the row that matches your exact key. Bring the fob in either way and we will swap it free.
The fastest answer is printed on the battery
Pop the fob open with a coin or a small flat screwdriver and read the number stamped on the cell — CR2032, CR2450, and so on. That number is definitive. This table is for when you would rather not take the key apart in the parking lot; treat it as a strong hint, not a guarantee.
Two batteries listed for your vehicle? That means the same model shipped with more than one fob design in those years. You will need to open the fob, or bring it in and we will check it at the counter.

What We Stock
Both stores carry the common sizes. Replacement labor is free either way — you only pay for the cell.
Not stocked: CR2412 (2015 Kia K900 smart key only). We can special-order it — call the store.
What This Table Covers
Fitment is taken from Energizer Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide. We have not independently verified every row against a factory owner's manual, and the coverage has real gaps worth knowing before you rely on it.
- Model years 2014–2023 only. Nothing here covers newer vehicles.
- 22 makes. The makes listed below are not in the source at all, or appear so thinly that listing them would imply coverage we do not have.
- Trim and region matter. The same model year can ship different fobs across trims, and a replacement fob fitted later may not match the original.
- Some European fobs use a rechargeable soldered-in cell that is not a user-replaceable coin battery at all.
Not in this table — call the store or check your manual:
We still replace the battery in these fobs free, same as any other. We just do not have a published fitment row to point you at beforehand, so bring the fob in and we will read the cell off it.
Stop In Today — It Takes Less Than 5 Minutes
Whether your key fob is completely dead or just losing range, bring it to either Family Hardware location and we will replace the battery for free. No appointment needed — just walk in.

Car Key Fob Battery FAQs
How much does car key fob battery replacement cost at Family Hardware?
The battery replacement labor is completely free. You only pay for the battery itself, which is typically a CR2032 or CR2025 coin cell battery. These batteries usually cost just a few dollars.
What types of key fobs can you replace batteries in?
We can replace batteries in most standard car key fobs from all major manufacturers including Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Subaru, Mazda, and more.
Do I need an appointment for key fob battery replacement?
No appointment is needed. Just walk into either our Cape Coral or Fort Myers store with your key fob and we will replace the battery on the spot. The whole process takes just a few minutes.
What battery does my car key fob use?
Most car key fobs use a CR2032 or CR2025 3V lithium coin cell battery. Some older or specialty fobs may use other sizes. Bring your fob in and we will identify the correct battery for you.
Which Family Hardware locations offer key fob battery replacement?
This free service is available at both of our locations: Cape Coral at 622 SE 47th Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33904 ((239) 542-6365) and Fort Myers at 13101 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33919 ((239) 933-1744).
How do I know if my key fob battery needs replacing?
Common signs include reduced range when unlocking your car, needing to press the button multiple times, a weak or inconsistent signal, or a low battery warning on your vehicle dashboard. If your fob stops working altogether, a dead battery is the most likely cause.
Will replacing the battery erase my key fob programming?
No. Replacing the battery does not affect your key fob programming. Your fob will continue to work with your vehicle exactly as before. In rare cases where a fob loses sync, a simple re-pairing process (usually described in your vehicle manual) will restore it.
Can I buy key fob batteries without the replacement service?
Absolutely. We stock CR2032, CR2025, and other common coin cell batteries if you prefer to do it yourself. But our free replacement service means you do not have to worry about prying open the fob or risking damage.
Where can I get a car key battery replaced near me?
Family Hardware replaces car key batteries free at both Southwest Florida locations — Cape Coral at 622 SE 47th Terrace and Fort Myers at 13101 McGregor Blvd. Walk in with the key, no appointment, and we swap the battery while you wait. You only pay for the battery.
Do you do auto key battery replacement, not just key fobs?
Yes. Whether you call it a car key battery, an auto key battery, a remote battery, or a key fob battery, it is the same free service. That covers switchblade and flip keys, smart keys and proximity fobs, and older separate remotes on a keyring.
Can you replace the battery in a car alarm remote or keyless entry remote?
Yes. Aftermarket car alarm remotes, keyless entry remotes, and garage or gate remotes use the same coin cell batteries as factory key fobs, and we replace those free too. Bring the remote in and we will identify the cell and swap it on the spot.
