beginning in 1976 as "Deming Park Hardware, Inc." Over the years, the store changed hands and names multiple times, with Salvatore Lamaritata converting it to "Cape Coral Ace Hardware" in the 1980s. In 1991, Ed Tisdale purchased the store and renamed it "Family Hardware" on the advice of his daughter, as the whole family was employed by the store at the time.

Current owner Jeremy Peterson took over in 2012, and the store has continued to evolve under his leadership. In 2015, Family Hardware expanded into the industrial sharpening industry with the acquisition of "Preshers Service Center", which now operates under the store's Commercial Department. In 2022, a second Family Hardware location opened in Fort Myers, housed in a 5,000 sq foot converted strip mall.
