Why Popular Tools

Built by one manufacturer, start to finish
Popular Tools controls the complete manufacturing process — plate, tensioning, brazing and grinding — so every blade cuts the same as the last one and lasts.
140,000 blades in stock, shipped same day
Five regional warehouses stock the 900-item catalog. Orders in by 2:30 PM ship the same day by UPS Ground from San Antonio, High Point or Columbus.
Sold only through sharpeners — like us
Since 1989 Popular has partnered with saw sharpeners, never selling direct. Family Hardware sharpens carbide blades every day, so the shop that sells your blade is the shop that keeps it sharp.
Re-bores, keyways and custom blades
Any blade can be bored to your arbor, with pinholes and keyways, in 1–5 days. Need something not in the catalog? Popular builds custom blades to your spec.

Which grind do I need?

Each Popular Tools blade uses the most appropriate carbide for the material it cuts — C-4 micron carbide in most cases, Micro-Sheen C-4 sub-micron for abrasive MDF and laminates (GAM, GTM, LM, DC), SuperMicro-Sheen C-11 for panel and scoring saws, and tougher grades where C-4 would be too brittle. The grind decides how it cuts:
ATB
Alternate Top Bevel. The most common saw design. Top-beveled teeth alternate left and right and sever the material with a shearing action — excellent with or against the grain over a wide range of cuts.
ATB+R
Alternate Top Bevel + Raker. For cut-off and trimming on natural wood or undefined grain: alternating top-bevel teeth shear, then a flat raker tooth clears the chips.
HATB
High Alternate Top Bevel. Like ATB but ground with a sharper (+30°) top angle for chip-free cutting of double-sided laminates such as melamine and Formica.
TCG
Triple Chip Grind. Alternating triple-edge and flat-top teeth: the chamfered tooth chips the center of the kerf, the flat raker cleans both sides. Very wear- and fracture-resistant in hard or abrasive material.
CTC
California Triple Chip. Combines the ATB slicing action with TCG durability — cuts a variety of materials without changing blades. Used on the double mitre blades for picture frame and molding shops.
FTG
Flat Top Grind. For cutting natural wood with the grain. Larger gullets accept greater chip loads for a higher feed rate; teeth cut with a chisel-like action.
LR
Left & Right. Each tooth has a beveled face in addition to the beveled top for an even finer surface — veneers, plywood and anywhere cut quality is critical.
LRLRS
Left Right Left Right Straight. LR with a straight raker every fifth tooth to clear sawdust, cool the blade and prevent dust build-up. Excellent for mitre box saws and fine trimming.
RA
Tapered Sides, Flat Top. Conic scoring tooth: tapered sides let the kerf be adjusted by raising or lowering the scoring arbor to match the main blade.

Saw operating RPM

Run it at the right speed

OSHA sets the maximum safe cutting speed at 18,000 surface feet per minute when cutting wood. The best results usually come at ½ to ¾ of that; never exceed the maximum. For aluminum and other metals the maximum safe speed is lower.

Popular Tools only sells through saw sharpeners because a blade’s life is measured in sharpenings, not cuts. Family Hardware runs a CNC carbide sharpening shop in Cape Coral: mail your Popular Tools blades in with the rest of your saw blades, or drop them at either store, and we grind them to the original geometry. Popular’s warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship on unmodified blades — regrinding at the factory or polishing off the logo voids it, so keep the sharpening with us.
Custom blades, re-bores and machine-specific fits
Don’t see your bore, pinhole or machine? Popular will build it.
Any stock blade can be re-bored with pinholes and keyways for your arbor in 1–5 days. For anything else — diameter, tooth count, grind, kerf, plate, hook, bolt circle — send us the Custom Blade Quotation Form and Popular Tools quotes it (minimum quantities may apply). Also available: solid carbide router bits, Classic-series contractor blades and everything else in the current catalog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Popular Tools?

Popular Machinery & Tools, Inc. of San Antonio, Texas has made carbide-tipped circular saw blades since 1989 (its Taiwanese parent since 1980) and is one of the largest saw blade companies in the U.S. It controls the whole manufacturing process, stocks over 140,000 blades across five regional warehouses, is a member of the International Saw and Knife Association, and sells only through saw sharpeners and machinery manufacturers — never direct.

Which Popular Tools blades does Family Hardware carry?

All 896 order IDs in the current price list, in 44 series: general purpose ATB and TCG, combination, trim and precision trim, Professional series contractor blades, rip and glue-joint rip, thin, ultra-thin and thin-rim, mitre and double mitre, chop and radial arm, melamine, solid surface, plastic, dado sets and chippers, groovers, panel and NPS panel saws, conic and split scoring, edge banders, double cut-off, optimizing, finger joint, truss and component, strob, nail-biting, tree trimming, Lucas mill, large diameter, steel cutting, PCD/Hardiplank, door jamb, blind cutting, non-ferrous, plus stabilizers, bushings, blade protectant tubing and wax sticks. Popular also makes solid carbide router bits — ask us.

How much do Popular Tools saw blades cost?

Every blade on these pages is priced 2% below Popular Tools list (Popular's list effective April 2026) — for example a 10" 40T general purpose GA1040 is $86.24, a 10" 50T combination CR1050 is $104.61, and a 10" 80T melamine LM1080 is $128.38. Shops buying in volume can request a quote for better pricing.

Are the blades in stock and how fast do they ship?

Popular Tools stocks the catalog in San Antonio, High Point and Columbus and ships orders received by 2:30 PM the same day by UPS Ground; we also keep the most common sizes in Cape Coral. Everything ships by parcel, free in the contiguous U.S. on orders of $99 or more, and can be picked up at either store.

Can you bore a blade to fit my machine?

Yes. Any Popular Tools blade can be re-bored to your exact specification — bore diameter, pinholes and keyways — typically in 1 to 5 days depending on quantity and complexity. The fee depends on size, pinholes and keyway; 22"–32" blades are re-bored to 1", 1 1/8", 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" at no charge. A blade that has been re-bored cannot be returned for credit.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Popular Tools replaces saws with defects in materials or workmanship; damage from misuse is not covered, and the warranty is void once a blade has been reground elsewhere or had its face polished to remove the Popular Tools logo. Unused, unmodified blades in the original package may be returned within 90 days of invoice with prior authorization; re-bored, reground, etched or inscribed blades cannot be returned.

ATB, TCG, FTG — which tooth design should I buy?

ATB (alternate top bevel) is the all-round choice for natural wood with or against the grain. TCG (triple chip) wears slower in plywood, chipboard, MDF and is the standard for non-ferrous metal and solid surface. FTG (flat top) is the fastest rip tooth. HATB slices double-sided laminates without chipping. LR and LRLRS give the finest finish on veneer, plywood and trim. ATB+R combination groups rip and crosscut with one blade. Use the tooth design guide on this page, or call us with the machine and material.

Do you sharpen Popular Tools blades?

Yes — Family Hardware runs a CNC carbide saw blade sharpening service in Cape Coral with mail-in service nationwide. Popular sells only through sharpeners for exactly this reason: we grind your blade back to its original geometry so it cuts like new, many times over.
