A cylinder exchange is the fastest and most affordable way to keep your SodaStream sparkling water maker running. Instead of buying a brand-new CO2 cylinder every time you run out, you bring your empty SodaStream cylinder to either Family Hardware location and swap it for a full one on the spot. Because you're returning the empty cylinder, you pay only the exchange price for the gas — significantly less than the cost of a new spare cylinder. The whole process takes about a minute at the register.
Which SodaStream cylinders do you exchange?
We exchange genuine SodaStream-branded 60 L CO2 cylinders — the standard size that comes with SodaStream sparkling water makers. SodaStream cylinders come in two styles: the classic blue screw-in valve and the newer pink Quick Connect (CQC) valve used by machines like the Terra, Art, and Duo. Give your store a quick call to confirm we have your cylinder style in stock before you head over. Cylinders from other brands cannot be accepted through the SodaStream exchange program.
How much does a SodaStream exchange cost?

How long does a SodaStream CO2 cylinder last?
A standard 60 L SodaStream cylinder carbonates up to 60 liters of water — roughly 120 half-liter bottles of sparkling water. For a typical household making a bottle or two a day, that works out to about 4–8 weeks per cylinder. If you like extra-bubbly water, expect the cylinder to run out a bit sooner since stronger fizz uses more CO2.
How do I know when my cylinder is empty?
The most obvious sign is weak or no carbonation — you press the button and get little or no fizz, or the machine no longer makes its normal carbonation sound. When that happens, your cylinder is empty and it's time for an exchange. Many SodaStream owners keep a spare full cylinder on hand so they never have to wait for bubbles.
Do I need a receipt or original packaging to exchange?
No receipt, box, or paperwork needed — just bring your empty SodaStream cylinder to the register at either store. It does not matter where you originally bought the cylinder, as long as it is a genuine SodaStream cylinder.
What happens to my empty cylinder?
Your empty cylinder goes back into SodaStream's reuse cycle: returned cylinders are professionally inspected, cleaned, refilled with fresh CO2, and put back into circulation. Each cylinder is reused again and again, which keeps metal out of landfills — and every 60 L cylinder you use replaces dozens of single-use plastic bottles.
Is it safe to transport a CO2 cylinder in my car?
Yes — SodaStream cylinders are small, sealed, and designed to be carried home. Keep the cylinder upright, don't leave it in a hot car for extended periods, and store it in a cool spot at home away from direct sunlight. That's all it takes.
