Common questions
What size Big Green Egg should I buy?
The Large is the one most people should buy. Its 18.25 inch grid feeds six to eight, it has by far the widest accessory lineup, and almost every convEGGtor, stone, rack and rotisserie is made for it first. Step up to the XL if you regularly cook for a dozen or more or want to run two turkeys at once. Step down to the Medium or MiniMax if patio space is the constraint rather than capacity.
What is the difference between a Large and an XL Big Green Egg?
Cooking area. The Large gives you an 18.25 inch grid and 262 square inches; the XL gives you a 24 inch grid and 452 square inches — about 70 percent more room. Both cook exactly the same way, hold temperature the same way and use the same charcoal. The XL costs more, takes more lump to come up to temperature, and needs more patio. Capacity is the only real decision.
How many people does each Big Green Egg feed?
Mini feeds 1–2, MiniMax and Small feed 2–4, Medium feeds 4–6, Large feeds 6–8, XL feeds 12–15 and the 2XL feeds 20 or more. Those are comfortable numbers for a full meal rather than absolute maximums — an EGG loaded with a multi-level rack will do considerably more.
Do all Big Green Egg accessories fit every size?
No. Anything that sits inside the EGG — convEGGtors, grids, baking stones, EGGspander kits, fire bowls — is size-specific, and so are nests, tables and covers. Tools like the Grid Gripper, EGGmitt and EGG Genius fit every size. Our EGGcessories pages list which sizes each part fits.
Can I see the different Big Green Egg sizes in person?
Yes. Family Hardware is an authorized Big Green Egg dealer and we keep EGGs on the floor at both stores — 622 SE 47th Terrace in Cape Coral and 13101 McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers. Standing next to a Large and an XL settles the question in about thirty seconds.
Do you deliver and assemble the EGG?
Yes, and it is free on packages throughout our service area — Cape Coral, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, Estero, Bonita Springs, Lehigh Acres, Alva, Naples, Marco Island, Golden Gate, Immokalee and Everglades City. Our own team brings it out fully assembled and levelled in its nest or table. No freight carrier, no curbside drop-off, and nobody has to lift a ceramic cooker off a pallet.
