A cellular shade is made of pleated fabric folded into honeycomb cells that run the width of the window. The air trapped inside each cell is the whole idea: it is a layer of insulation sitting against the glass, which is why these cut draughts in winter and heat gain in summer in a way a flat vinyl blind cannot. Light filtering lets a soft, even daylight through and keeps the room bright while blocking the view in — a living room or a kitchen. - Inside mount: measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the NARROWEST of the three.
- Outside mount: measure the width you want covered and add about 3 in. to each side so light does not leak past.
