Cordless 1 In. Room Darkening Cellular Shade blocks out most natural light. Perfect for bedrooms. Cordless is the safest option for a home with small children and pets. Simply lift or lower the shade to any desired height by holding the bottom rail. Keeps rooms warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer months. Hardware and instructions included, for multiple mounting options, including inside and outside mounts. Easy installation, few minutes to complete.
Cellular shades: how the honeycomb works, and light filtering vs room darkening
A cellular shade is made of pleated fabric folded into honeycomb cells that run the width of the window. The air trapped inside each cell is the whole idea: it is a layer of insulation sitting against the glass, which is why these cut draughts in winter and heat gain in summer in a way a flat vinyl blind cannot. The 1 In. cell is the standard size and suits ordinary window depths. The choice that actually matters is the fabric. Light filtering lets a soft, even daylight through and keeps the room bright while blocking the view in — a living room or a kitchen. Room darkening uses a denser weave and a backing to cut most of the light, which is what a bedroom, a nursery or a room with a television wants. Cordless means there is no pull cord at all: you lift or lower the bottom rail by hand and it stays where you put it, which is the safe choice around children and pets.

Measuring, and getting the size right first time
- Inside mount: measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the NARROWEST of the three.
- Outside mount: measure the width you want covered and add about 3 in. to each side so light does not leak past.
- Check the depth of the window recess for an inside mount — the headrail needs somewhere to sit.
- Room darkening cuts most light but is not a blackout seal; light will still edge around an inside mount.
- Cordless has no pull cord, which is the safer choice in a child or pet household.
