Order ID GA860A LITTLE KNOW-HOW. A BETTER CUT.
How to choose a saw blade.
Start with the saw. Then the cut. Then the material. The blade picks itself.
01 / DIAMETER & ARBOR
Match the saw first.
Read the diameter and arbor off your old blade or the saw’s plate. 7-1/4" with a 5/8" knockout is the circular saw standard; 10" or 12" with a 5/8" or 1" bore covers most table and miter saws; European sliders run 30mm.
02 / TOOTH COUNT
Fewer teeth cut faster. More teeth cut cleaner.
24T rips solid stock with the grain. 40–50T is the general purpose and combination range. 60–80T crosscuts trim and plywood. 80–120T leaves melamine, laminate and aluminum chip-free.
03 / GRIND & HOOK
The tooth shape is the job.
ATB shears wood cleanly; FTG rips; TCG survives laminate, plastics and non-ferrous metal; Hi-ATB is the chip-free finish grind. A negative hook keeps a sliding miter or radial arm saw from climbing the cut.
04 / KEEP IT SHARP
A good blade is sharpened, not replaced.
Every blade here can come back to our CNC sharpening shop in Cape Coral, in person or by mail, and be ground back to its original geometry many times over.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Saw blade questions.
How do I know which saw blade fits my saw?
Two numbers: the blade diameter and the arbor (bore). Both are printed on your current blade and in the saw’s manual. Most table saws and 10" miter saws take a 10" blade with a 5/8" arbor; 12" miter saws take 12" × 1"; corded and cordless circular saws take 7-1/4" × 5/8" with a diamond knockout; European sliding table saws take 30mm bores with pinholes. Filter this shop by diameter and arbor and every blade shown will fit.
How many teeth should a saw blade have?
Fewer teeth cut faster and clear chips better; more teeth leave a smoother edge. Use 24 teeth for ripping solid wood, 40–50 for general purpose and combination work, 60–80 for crosscutting trim and plywood, and 80–120 for melamine, laminate, veneer and aluminum.
What is the difference between ATB, TCG, FTG and Hi-ATB grinds?
ATB (alternate top bevel) teeth shear fibres for clean crosscuts in wood. FTG (flat top grind) teeth chisel through ripping cuts. TCG (triple chip grind) alternates a chamfered tooth with a flat raker and stands up to laminate, plastics and non-ferrous metal. Hi-ATB uses a steeper bevel for chip-free cuts in melamine and veneered plywood. ATB+R combination blades mix bevel teeth with a raker so one blade rips and crosscuts.
Can I buy Freud, Diablo, Tenryu and Popular Tools blades in one order?
Freud, Diablo and Tenryu blades are stocked in our catalog and go straight into your shopping cart. Popular Tools blades ship direct from Popular’s U.S. warehouses and are ordered through their own order box on this page; they check out separately. Both orders come from the same family-owned shop in Cape Coral, Florida.
Do you sharpen these blades?
Yes. Family Hardware runs a CNC carbide saw blade sharpening service in Cape Coral with mail-in service nationwide, and free shipping both ways on 10 or more blades. Every blade in this shop can be sharpened back to its original geometry.
What does thin kerf mean and when should I choose it?
Kerf is the width of the cut. Thin kerf blades (under .100") remove less material, so they need less power: the right choice for contractor table saws, cordless circular saws and anyone trying to save stock. Full kerf blades (.100" and up) run truer on high-horsepower cabinet saws and industrial machines.
Which blade for cutting aluminum or steel?
Aluminum, brass and other non-ferrous metals want a triple chip grind with a negative hook angle, such as Tenryu Alumi-Cut, Freud non-ferrous blades or Popular Tools non-ferrous series. Steel needs a dedicated ferrous blade for a dry-cut metal saw, such as Diablo Steel Demon or Tenryu Steel-Pro. Never run a wood blade in metal.
