Handle

Turns the cartridge. Usually held on by a set screw under a decorative cap.

Signs it’s failing: Handle spins without doing anything (stripped); Cracked or missing cap.

Aerator

The screen at the tip of the spout that shapes the stream and limits flow.

The drain assembly through the sink hole, sealed with putty or a gasket on top and a nut underneath.

Tailpiece

The straight pipe from the drain body down to the trap.

Signs it’s failing: Drip at the slip nut; Rusted-through metal tailpiece.

The U-bend that holds water to block sewer gas, and catches rings and clogs.

Signs it’s failing: Leak at either slip nut; Sewer smell (dry or cracked trap); Slow drain.
